After Ryan Giggs had a go at management at the end of last season, replacing David Moyes for the remaining four matches, many called for the Welshman to be the next Manchester United manager.
In the end Louis van Gaal was appointed as the full-time manager after Giggs had been caretaker manager at the end of United's abysmal campaign last year. But the legendary winger did enough in his four matches and had the emotional extra to get the backing of the fans of the Old Trafford club whilst rumours circulated about who would be in charge.
The former winger, who is now Van Gaal's assistant at United, is still backed to be future manager of the club. His former teammate and BT pundit Paul Scholes believes that Giggs could leave Old Trafford before that day though; "There’s no doubt, he had that little taste of it for the last three weeks of last year and he definitely wants to be a manager. You can see that. Over the next two or three years, will he have the patience to be a number two for that long? I’m not sure he will.”
The former Wales captain didn't do himself any favours with getting rid of any rumours he could leave United to take up a managerial position elsewhere saying;"I enjoyed the brief spell I had in four games managing last season and that really helped with the transition.I didn’t miss playing as much as I thought I would... So whenever that time comes - I don’t know when it will be - but all I can do is prepare myself."
Another former teammate of Giggs' and current BT pundit, Michael Owen, agreed with Scholes' sentiments saying; “Now he’s too excited to become a number one again. If he hadn’t had that experience he would have been far more patient."
It is seemingly inevitable that the 13 time Premier League winner will one day enter management, on a full-time basis, it just remains to be seen if that is at United or elsewhere.
